International Composers’ Course and Palendriai Music Festival is an initiative held by the non-profit organization accoAkademija which innovatory nourishment of cultural and artistic life in Lithuania has been active since 2011. The founder of accoAkademija is internationally known accordionist Martynas Levickis whose initiative of composers’ workshop has rapidly grown into progressive and internationally acknowledgeable event. Composers from all over the world are invited to create for the accordion in this course and share their compositions with the audiences at the simultaneously ongoing Festival programme at nontraditional spaces and venues around the region of Palendriai.

The course is very important for the accordion music community worldwide: there is no other event in the global context of music where composing for the accordion is the main focus.

I am happy to lead as well as to be taking part in this unique festival which takes place in picturesque Lithuania. What used to be a four-day workshop has now grown into The International Music Festival and Composers’ Course. The event has brought together an incredible variety of young artists. Throughout the past years we explored a wide geography by working with composers and performers from New Zealand, United Kingdom, Serbia, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Poland and Lithuania.”- says accoAkademija founder and Composers’ Course artistic director Martynas Levickis.

During the Course a constant every-day collaboration, intense learning and sharing process, experimenting and rehearsing is the key factor. There are also a countless number of workshops supervised by a selection of experienced musicians who provide constant guidance and accompany the young composers throughout the course. As a result, the week-long creative and artistic process is showcased in Palendriai Music Festival’s final concert, allowing the audience to discover the new exciting sounds.
